DNA companies - which do I go for?

There is no easy answer to this. There are three main DNA companies to test with, and I've done them all indivudually. Here's the order I took them:

  1. MyHeritage (2017)

  2. Ancestry (2018)

  3. (2019)

If I could go back in time, here's the order I would have tested:

  1. Ancestry

  2. 23&Me

Why would I not test with MyHeritage anymore? MyHeritage is where I do most of my work with genealogy, but what I have since learned is that you can actually take your tests you have done with Ancestry or 23&Me and upload it to MyHeritage, meaning you don't need to have taken a test with MyHeritage to get the results. The only advantage you do get with MyHertage is they can also test genetic health risks, however this is of little importance to me. I should add that my favourite resultrs are with MyHeritage.

The reason I pick Ancestry as number 1 is because I have some close family who have already tested there, meaning I would know reasonably quickly which bits of DNA belong to which of my parents/grandparents/great-grandparents.

23&Me also does health, which I opted not to do and I have had some rather interesting matches, however the fact that Ancestry also have very good family tree databses/searches means for me that it's a winner.
